| As funny as it may seem, everyone has their own idea of democracy and decency. Frankly, it depends on the person's level of evolution. And I do not mean the intellectuality; the number of degrees one has is irrelevant, in this case. Evolution, democracy and finally decency can only come from one’s ability and willingness to accept the responsibility, which is how we evolve. When we allow any government, elected or not, to rule in our name, such countries and people have nothing to do with democracy. These people simply use such environments as an excuse to blame someone else for their own ignorance and unwillingness to create a True Democracy, where individuals are responsible for every little and a major choice the country makes. Therefore, bear the responsibility for the consequences – and at times, this may be quite painful. So most people choose to have someone else to blame.
If I lived in the country of Democracy, I would have to make those painful choices: what should the minimum wage be? Or should we have more and better schools and hospitals? Or should we have a national health care system? Or should we spend money on building a better levee to protect New Orleans? Or should we invest money into the alternative fuel? Or should we attack another country? And of course, how do we rebuild the country that we invaded? Would I make mistakes? Yes I would, and I would also pay for them by accepting responsibility, learning and evolving.
But this is not a democracy and therefore, we have surrounded ourselves by the creatures who will tell us what choices are to be made. So we, from the comfort of the shadows, can point out crooked fingers and blame them...
When I voted in the last election, I knew that neither of the candidates deserved to be respected or to have my vote. It was my responsibility to vote for the local issues, and to show the vote of no confidence by leaving no check mark against their names. Unlike so many, I do accept responsibility for the consequences of our actions, and even though my “vote of no confidence” made no difference, I made the only right choice – and thus evolve.
