| Most people were surprised and some even became ill by this announcement. (I could almost feel a streak of genuine empathy washing over me for many republicans who got sick to their stomach as this ‘dreadful news’ was being broadcasted; but somehow I can’t.) So many pundits are still debating if this was justified and who would have been a more appropriate recipient of such an award - had they been deciding world’s affairs. The President himself noted that he doesn’t feel that he deserved it; and I tend to agree with him.
However, this prize is not awarded by democrats or republicans; nor any other flag-waving American. This honor (many people – not including me – feel that Nobel Prize represents the highest honor to be had on this planet) is bestowed by members of the Nobel Committee in Norway and they have their own ideals and values – that come to all who wield power. So, as the people of a faraway land, it may come as a surprise to many here, they probably are not as indoctrinated into our world of extreme right and left wing politics, as many Americans would have wished. Yet, as Great Americans, I think that we need to forgive them their lack of partisanship; for they simply know no better. They’ve never truly inhaled the aroma of our national pride – the world of U.S. politics; or as I would call it: manure territory. Had they taken a long whiff and inhaled, things might no be so depressing for many…
I believe that folks from the Nobel committee, as well as so many around the world, seem to be in awe of the fact that - while our history, our land, is still soaked with the blood of slaves and the victims of racism -we can rise up and elect a black man to the office of Presidency of the United States. They wanted to acknowledge this monumental event and award American people with the highest prize in their possession - and our president in this case certainly represents us. I for one cannot blame them for being willing to recognize this and I share their desire to celebrate this epic moment in history.
Here is to our country; here is to America!
