Made-in-America

'Conscious America’ is a site designed, in hope, to show that we can control many critical aspects of our lives, if we choose to accept responsibility for the choices that we make.

"Support our Troops" ribbons. (Do we really?)Date Released: 05/08/2005
It is a great feeling when we place a yellow ribbon on our cars or tie them around the trees to show everyone the support we feel for our troops. Then, sometime later during the day, we turn on the TV and watch a person describing the hardships of soldiers’ families unable to pay their bills, buy food or clothes for their children, asking us for a donation, as if to help someone in a third world country. And we think, “How sad!”, and go on about our business, "...after all I have a ribbon on my car!"

Some may choose to send a check, but our troops and their families are not beggars and they do not need our pity. They need to know that American people, whom they serve and protect, have self-respect and a sense of loyalty. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if for every ribbon that we place on our cars or tie around the trees we sent a letter to our government’s representatives demanding Real Benefits for our troops and their families?

Of course, it may mean paying higher taxes to have a comfort of earned self-respect. But then again, ribbon may be all the sacrifice and support we are willing to make.
