| A Man walks outside with no money and an empty stomach; without a clear picture of what this day will bring, or where the next meal would come from, or even if he will have a meal today. He walks along the road and notices the bright sun, that for sum reason warms his heart and brings a smile to his face. As he continues, he sees some money on the ground, and all of a sudden his heart leaps! For now he knows that he will have a meal today! And as he treads along the way, after his meal, he is conscious of the fact that his life will be filled with pain and hunger, but till the end of his days, he will cherish the gift of that moment. Moments, such as these, will warm his soul when things are dark and hopeless – and all that he needs to do is to look within and find that place where he keeps the most treasured gifts that the Moment brings.
Another man steps outside and, just like so many others, doesn't have a penny to his name. He walks along the road and even the bright and sunny day will not cheer his gloomy mood. As he continues, he notices some money lying on the ground and he feels happiness he never felt before - but only for a short while. He, just like so many others, understand that if only he had found more... So, as he continues on this gloomy and disappointing day, he notices another gift that the Moment brings. And, just like before, his heart trembles from the excitement, but just a short time later, the realization that if only there was a little more - he would be able to finally...
In the evening, when he returns home, he bears no treasures, no riches to cherish - even though his pockets may be full. And as he stumbles through the life, there is no place within his soul where he might find the gifts of the Moment. The only burden that he caries is the thought: “What if only?”
December, the season of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and a New Year, brings a great joy to many homes and many souls. There is a magic in the smiles that we see on the faces of people who walk by and the music that we hear - and to me, this is the real gift to treasure.
Happy Holidays!
